ARCHIVED NEWS FROM 2005 Capital Rainbowfest IV is below:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Trenton, August 18 -- Capital Rainbowfest IV, New Jersey's Classic Fall Pride Event, returns to Mill Hill Park for the fourth year this September 18 from noon until 6 p.m.
Vendors, exhibitors, food, fun and displays of interest to the gay, lesbian, transgendered, bisexual and intersexed (GLTBI) communities of New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania will again fill the park with festive cheer, while new attractions offer added appeal to both first-time and veteran visitors.
The festival is open to all; the $5 suggested donation supports the ongoing work of Capital Rainbowfest. Vendors, exhibitors, donors and volunteers are still being actively enlisted; please visit www.capitalrainbowfest.org to learn how you can support this 501(c)(3)-registered organization.
Trenton's first-ever GLTBI Pride Parade is the
centerpiece of this year's
celebration, according to Capital Rainbowfest's Vice President David
Nixon. He
promises the march, to include a women's motorcycle brigade, female
impersonators, and many of the state's
GLTBI support and political groups, will be "absolutely
fabulous."
Then, as MC of the afternoon's entertainment, he will appear as Ms. Dhyana Nixon, introducing scheduled and special guests while offering her own unique interpretations of classic Motown, soul and disco hits.
The entertainment begins promptly at noon. Scheduled to appear are:
The New Jersey Gay Men's Chorus (www.njgmc.org): The Chorus strive through song and act to demonstrate and share our pride in themselves and their community. The men are from throughout Mercer county and the state.
LADYJAM (aka the Rev. LaDana Clark): A courageous
entertainer on a mission, LADYJAM promotes good clean FUN using hip-hop music to
deliver her heartfelt
anti-drug, anti-violence, anti-racism, and anti-smoking message. The Rev. LaDana
Clark lives in Plainfield.
Pandora Scooter (www.pandorascooter.com): A Highland Park
native, Pandora Scooter brings her high-energy spoken-word performance pieces
back to Trenton, where
she is a favorite draw at the Trenton Q-Nite (www.tglca.com/page4.html)
coffeehouse.
Then, live from New York City, it's Fagapalooza! (www.fagapalooza.com), featuring four of the always-evolving cast of Manhattan's longest-running queer music showcase. The Capital Rainbowfest IV edition of Fagapalooza! includes singer/songwriter Kris Landherr (www.krislandherr.com), techopoppers Rubberlegs (www.rubberlegs.com), gender-distender singer Yolanda (www.yolanda.net), and the goth-house musical stylings of *V*I*R*G*O* (www.intraxis.com/virgo/.
At 4 p.m., New Jersey's own Josh Zuckerman (www.joshzuckerman.com), just back from a whirlwind tour of Japan, will take the state with his band for a full 45-minute set. If you only got a taste of Josh at Jersey Pride in Asbury Park, come to Capital Rainbowfest for a bigger, more satisfying portion of this up-and-comer's powerful pop music.
Capital Rainbowfest IV ends the day with our
friends Amy Schindler and Maire
Tashjian, known to all as Virago (www.viragomusic.com). The duet
consists of Amy
calling an audience to attention with riveting vocals and bold acoustic
guitar
riffs. The songs come alive
with ethnic flair as Maire adds a variety of percussion instruments to
them.
Their instruments
include a full drum set, surdo, or Brazilian bass drum, conga drums,
bells and
ganzas or shakers.
PLUS: The CAPITAL RAINBOWFEST IV AFTERPARTY starts at 2 p.m. at BUDDIES PUB, 677 S. BROAD ST., TRENTON and runs until closing at 2 a.m. Enjoy complimentary food, faaabulous cocktails, and dancing until (almost) dawn!
And it's all in Trenton, on what has always been a beautiful Sunday afternoon in autumn. There's grass, shade, room to sit, short lines and plenty of parking. For directions, please visit www.capitalrainbowfest.org.

Capital Rainbowfest Steps Off
On Its Own
New 501(c)(3) Status Means Contributions to the Festival Are Now
Tax-Deductible
For Immediate Release
Capital Rainbowfest, Inc. (CRI) is pleased to announce that it has officially filed with the Internal Revenue Service and incorporated as a stand-alone cultural and social entity. Previously, Capital Rainbowfest was a project of the Trenton Gay and Lesbian Civic Association; but with this new identity, Capital Rainbowfest can benefit from more favorable donation rules and insurance rates while its former parent, TGLCA, is relieved of fiscal responsibility and potential liability issues associated with the production of a world-class Pride Festival in the capital city of New Jersey.
What this means is that donors to Capital Rainbowfest can now deduct most or all of the value of their donations, which they were not able to do when making donations to TGLCA.
"This is exactly the same tax status under which most Pride Festivals operate," noted CRI Chair Tom Burns. "We were at a disadvantage because potential donors could go elsewhere to give and receive a valuable tax benefit in return for their generosity. Now, we have removed that particular obstacle."
Donors have asked TGLCA for this benefit for years, Burns added.
Because CRI's charter includes social and cultural activities, Burns said that Capital Rainbowfest itself may be just the beginning for more LBGTI-supportive activities in the greater Trenton/Mercer County."Rainbowfest isn't limited to Trenton civic issues. We can do things that TGLCA can't, or shouldn't."
The Capital Rainbowfest planning meetings take
place every second and fourth
Wednesdays at the offices of TGLCA, located at 986 S. Broad St (close
to
Chiacchio-Southview Funeral Home), Trenton. More information can be
